Malkangiri, Nov 7: Inspector General (operation) Soumendra Priyadarshi Saturday visited the district to review security measures in the wake of a surge in Maoist violence in parts of the district close to Chhattisgarh-Andhra Pradesh border.
After a long hiatus, the rebels started making inroads in interiors of the district posing serious threat to the lives of people, sources said.
Combing operation would be intensified as the Reds are likely to get their act together on border and interior parts of the district in winter season, the IG said.
A special strategy would be drawn up with the deployment of CoBRA battalion and BSF jawans since the cadres slip into the district after committing violence in Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradhesh, Priayadarshi said, adding, all measures would be taken to curb the menace and bring back peace in the area.
Anti-Maoists operation would be intensified with assistance from the neghbouring states, he said.
Earlier in the day, the IG along with Police Housing Board managing director Manoj Kumar Chhabra landed on MV-3 helipad and went straight to the office of the superintendent of police (SP). Later, they visited the BSF camp at Jodamba in the company of SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra, south-western DIG S Saini, BSF DIG (operation) DS Sanda and other officials.
Priyadarshi held discussions with BSF officials about the new strategy to be adopted during the combing operation. He went to the BSF camp in MV-3 area and reviewed the Maoist situation and the approach of the jawans to counter any eventuality in the coming days.
