Bhubaneswar: Saila Ranasing, whose violent actions have earned her the epithet ‘Lady Don’, was arrested along with four of her associates Sunday by Laxmisagar police, five days after she was released from Jharpada Special Jail on conditional bail.
Sources said Santosh Jena passed an indecent comment at Mamata Naik, the daughter of Subhdra Naik, Sunday morning. This prompted Saila Ranasingh and her associates to beat up Santosh’s father and destroy their assets. Santosh Jena retaliated with his five associates, attacking Subhadra Naik, her son and two daughters. The attacks caused severe injuries to Naik’s family members.
Both sides then approached Laxmisagar police station and lodged complaints against each other. Police arrested Saila Ranasingh, four of her associates, Santosh Jena and five of his associates for the violent incidents. All the 11 accused were forwarded to jail. The residents of Haldipadia slum were left in a state of panic after the clashes between the two groups.
The Khurda district sessions court had Monday granted conditional bail to Ranasingh in the case of an attack she had led on a team of policemen June 10. She was released on a personal bond undertaking that she would maintain utmost good behaviour for the next two years. As per the conditions of the bail, if she was found or caught committing or getting involved in any sort of criminal activities, her bail would be set aside suo motu and she would be brought back to jail. Ranasingh had signed the declaration of good behaviour at the commissionerate of police headquarters here. She was to report before the local police station every Sunday as per the bail conditions.Several criminal cases are pending at different police stations in the capital city against Ranasingh.
