Bhubaneswar: The All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, is all set to facilitate the services of air ambulances on its Dumduma campus to ensure critically injured persons get timely specialised medical attention.
The Centre has decided to provide such facility for two Maoist-affected states of Chhattisgarh and Orissa. The main objective, according to the government is to provide adequate specialised and super specialised medical services to the injured, both for security personnel and also general public.
Talking to Orissa POST, AIIMS, Bhubaneswar director AK Mahapatra confirmed the news about the proposal to construct a helipad on the AIIMS campus to ensure timely medical service from specialised centres near the state to reduce the time lost in reaching such centres through other modes of transportation.
However, the director said it would take some time to complete the project but declined a time-frame for the same.
According to experts, the proposed service, which may be operational in a year would provide specialty and super-specialty services to persons sustaining critical injuries in Maoist-related violence, will prove a boon for the security personnel who fight under difficult conditions.
In Chhattisgarh the facility will begin at the AIIMS campus in Raipur.
Often incidences of Maoist attacks on security forces leave the jawans in dilemma as to where to reach for specialised treatment. A crucial time is wasted in reaching to the desired trauma care centres.
An ACP rank officer from the Bhubaneswar-Cuttack commisionerate office told Orissa POST, “Often, people injured during Maoist attacks near Koraput or adjoining areas, are shifted to specialised hospitals at Vishakhapatnam due to its proximity from the spot. I hope such move will help save many lives and boost the morale of the forces.”
