Bhubaneswar: Keeping in view a rising sense of insecurity among senior citizens in the twin cities, the commissionerate police plan to appoint nodal officers at all rural and urban police stations in the twin cities to look after the security of senior citizens.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting between senior citizens and senior police officials held at Jayadev Bhawan here Sunday. State DGP KB Singh, who chaired the meeting, said measures would be taken to “bridge the gap” between cops and senior citizens.
“All security measures would be provided to the senior citizens. We are making a list of nodal officers for the police stations, who will be coordinating with the senior citizens and looking after their security,” said Singh to journalists after the meeting.
He said the commissionerate police are already continuing community policing in order to ensure the security of senior citizens and also having regular meetings with them to discuss their safety.
Twin-city Police Commissioner RP sharma advised senior citizens to install CCTV cameras on the premises of their houses. He also stressed the need for all citizens keeping records of present and past details of their maids, drivers and people living in their houses on rent.
Senior citizens attending the meeting were optimistic about the security measures being taken by police. “We hope this meeting would make an impact on police officials’ attitude towards senior citizens. The mindset of police officials towards senior citizens needs to improve. We expect decent behavior from them at the police station,” said an elderly man attending the meeting.
