Mumbai, Dec 7: More and more people are looking for ‘vastu’ compliant homes now days, a recent survey has revealed. According to a study conducted by property portal Housing.com across eight major cities, nearly 93 per cent of home buyers seek vastu compliant homes.
“Four out of every five prospective home buyers would like to know the vastu (ancient science of architecture as per Hindu tradition) of the property, even before physically checking the property”, the study said. The company conducted the survey with a sample size of 328 individuals including brokers, architects and builders in Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Patna, Ahmedabad, Chennai and Bangalore. It found nearly 33 per cent of the buyers consider ‘directions’ in the house most important when it comes to choosing a property.
“Amongst this, direction of entrance takes precedence over that of kitchen, bathroom, puja rooms followed by set-up and arrangement of rooms and their sizes. Nearly 56 per cent of the consumers believe that the entrance to the house is the most important factor in determining its vastu compliancy,” the report said. After direction, home buyers give preference to set-up and arrangement in the house followed by the positive impact of the property and last the ventilation and flow of energy. It further noted that consumers show willingness to compromise on design in order to get a vastu compliant house. Nearly 87 per cent of the respondents readily agreed to forego the size of the house for vastu, it said.
The report also noted consumers showcase willingness to compromise on design in order to get a vastu compliant house. According to the study, south has the highest vastu compliancy requests followed by north, east and west. “In south, Chennai and Bangalore showcase considerable faith in vastu, with a majority willing to even take corrective measures if the house is not vastu compliant”, it said. Further, joint families show inclination towards adopting vastu with over 70 per cent in favour of the practice while less than 50 per cent of nuclear families and bachelors are interested in vastu, the report said.
“Since Vastu is more of a belief, consumers tend to adopt it without question. The adherence to vastu is seen high among consumers who are more risk prone such as businessmen and middle aged consumers”, the firm said. Interestingly, businessmen exhibit higher vastu compliance as compared to professionals, while workers and small-time traders showcase the least dependency on it for home buying.
