Cuttack, Dec 10: Jay Durga Club and Rising Star Club registered narrow wins in their respective matches of the FAO First Division Super League at the Barabati Stadium here Thursday.
In the first match, Jay Durga edged out Radha Raman Club 2-1. Chandra Sekhar Behera (fifth) and Pandu Singh (54th) scored for the winners while Nigerian import Imanuel Emmi got the goal for Radha Raman Club.
In the other game, Rising Star defeated SAI-STC 3-1. Aktar Hussain (49th), Sk Rajan (64th) and Sk Moin (79th) were the scorers for Rising Star. Arjun Nayak got one back for SAI-STC in the 29th minute.
Friday’s matches: Radha Gobinda Club vs Orissa Police (1 pm), Sunrise Club vs Chand Club (3 pm).
Match drawn
LIC Sports Club held Royal Club to a 1-1 draw in a match of the FAO IInd Division League at the Barabati Stadium here Thursday. In another match, Chauliaganj Club was declared the winner as OFRC did not turn up.
Coaches’ grievance
Many tennis coaches of the state are grieved over the fact that only players can participate in the 17th Nalco Open Tennis Tournament as per the announcement of the organisers Bhubaneswar District Tennis Association (BDTA). The coaches, this year have been banned from taking part in the event which starts Friday.
“It’s a shame to the tennis fraternity of the state,” said coach Ajay Nishank. “When the players have no problems, what is bothering the association?
Most of the coaches and some players met BDTA officials Thursday to inform them about their grievances and asked the association to withdraw the sanction imposed. The coaches also informed that Chinmay Pradhan and Silpi Swaroopa Dash, two of the main players in the men’s and women’s category have withdrawn from the event as a mark of protest.
