Gunupur, Dec 16: Love is timeless and knows no boundaries- this age-old adage was rediscovered when a girl from Tokyo, Ashumi Norikami, married local boy Shyamal Kumar here.
The two institutionalised their undying affection Tuesday at a local lodge following Vedic rituals in the presence of their parents. The Japanese girl’s decision to become an Oriya ‘bohu’ created ripples in this small township of Rayagada district, a report said.
Shyamal, son of retired teacher Bhaskar and Jayamala Mishra earned an MCA from Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT) at Saranga in Dhenkanal district after completing his formal education in Gunupur. Later, he got a placement and travelled several countries in connection as his job demanded. During one such move, Shyamal started working as a software engineer with a Tokyo-based company about eight years ago.
He met Ashumi there who was his office colleague. They developed friendship which eventually translated into an affair between the two. In course of time, they decided to spend the rest of their lives together. Both still work for the company.
The couple didn’t let the social hurdles come their way. Seeing their commitment and determination, the families gave their nod for completion of the formality.
The marriage took place in a lodge at Gunupur under Vedic rituals. The wedding was attended by Ashumi’s father Nobyuki and mother Sane Norikami and Shyamal’s family.
His wife is a Buddhist follower and he couldn’t have got a better girl than her, Shyamal said.
