Cuttack, Dec 25: Sambit Panda of Bhubaneswar emerged champion in the All India Open Fide Rating Chess Championships, which concluded at the Sachin Tendulkar Indoor Hall here Friday. Sambit dominated throughout the tournament and clinched the title with 8.5 points. However, he finished the tournament drawing his last match and thereby failed to create an all-win record.
Barun Dey of West Bengal secured second place with 7.5 points. Pranab Kumar Patra finished third with seven points while Rajendra Kumar Sahoo stood fourth with the same number of points after tie-breaker was applied.
Other results: Soumya Ranjan Das (5th), Arya Bhakta (6th), Santosh Raj Panda (7th), Anisha Mishra (8th), Rajashree Dutta (9th), Priyabrata Singh Samanta (10th), Sneha Dev (11th), Kamal Lochan Padhi (12th), Nilsu Patnaik ( 13th), Rabindra Kumar Ojha (14th), Hrushikesh Ratha(15th), Arpan Das (16th), Prasanna Kumar Nayak (17th), Soumya Ranjan Sahoo (18th), Shreyas Subham Patnaik ( 19th) and Subhendu Kumar Patra (20th).

Thirteen players are sharing the joint top spot with three points each after the end of the third round of the State Open chess tournament, which was inaugurated at the Secretariat Recreation Club in Bhubaneswar, Friday. They are Manas Parida, Birakishore Behera, Raghunath Mohanty, Rabindra Moharana, Amal Das, Aditya Patnaik, G Prahallad, Manas Moharana, Natabara Das, Sahadev Khatei, Harshit Mohapatra, Sunil Sethy and Dhirendra Das. They are closely followed by Prabhat Ojha and Anshuman Nanda with 2.5 points apiece. Forty one players are in the third spot with two points each.
