Australia vs India, 2nd ODI: Live Updates

Australia win, clinch series

Sydney: Australia clinched the three-day One Day International (ODI) series against India with a thumping 51 runs victory in the second ODI here, Sunday.

Skipper Virat Kohli was top-scorer for India with his 89-run knock while KL Rahul contributed 76 runs.
Australia had won the series-opener by 66 runs Friday.

All hopes on KL Rahul

Sydney: Indian skipper Virat Kohli could not complete his century and was caught out by a superb piece of fielding from Moises Henriques off a Josh Hazlewood delivery.

Any hope for an Indian win in Sydney have been pinned on KL Rahul (45 runs, 47 balls) and Hardik Pandya (9 runs, 9 balls) as the visitors register 259/4 at the end of 40 overs.

Iyer departs

Sydney: Chasing a target of 390, Team India after losing openers Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal, lost Shreyas Iyer (38 runs, 36 balls) courtesy of a superb catch from Steve Smith off a Moises Henriques delivery.

Skipper Virat Kohli batting at 72 from 73 balls is joined by KL Rahul (13, 16 balls) as India registered 185/3 at the end of 30 overs.

Virat, Shreyas steady ship

Sydney: After losing openers Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal early on, Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer have somewhat steadied the Indian ship against Australia in the second ODI here.

Kohli batting with 35 runs from 42 balls while Iyer with 30 from 29 are hoping to build up a partnership to chase down Australia’s mammoth score of 389/4.

India two down

Sydney: Chasing a mammoth target of 390, India lost both its openers, Shikhar Dhawan 30 (23 ball) and Mayank Agarwal 28 (26 balls), in quick succession, registering 67/2 at the end of 10 overs in the second ODI against Australia here, Sunday.

All hopes are pinned on skipper Virat Kohli who is joined by Shreyas Iyer on the pitch to chase down Australia’s total.

Australia register 389/4 at end of 50 overs

Sydney: Batting first, Australia put on board a commanding total of 389/4 at the end of 50 overs in the second ODI against India here, Sunday.

Steve Smith scored 104 off 64 deliveries for the hosts while Mohammed Shami, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah each picked up a wicket.

Another 350+ total in sight

Sydney:  Steve Smith is right on course for another century in the second ODI against India here as he guided Australia to 275/2 at the end of 40 overs with a blistering 88 from just 57 balls.

Giving Smith company, Marnus Labuschagne scored 38 from as many balls as Australia look for a total in excess of 350 for a second consecutive ODI. The hosts lead the three-match series 1-0.

Smith picks up where he left off

Sydney: Star batsman Steve Smith who scored an impressive century in the first ODI, picked up from where he had left off after blazing to 33* from 25 balls as Australia put 187/2 on board at the end of 30 overs against India.

Opener David Warner was run out for 83 (77 balls) while skipper Aaron Finch was caught by his Indian counterpart Virat Kohli for 60 (69 balls) from a Mohammed Shami delivery.

Australia eyeing big total

Sydney: Australian openers David Warner (70, batting) and David Finch (43, batting) put 117/0 on board at the end of the first 20 overs in the second ODI against India here, Sunday.

Aussies in cruise control

Sydney: Opting to bat first, hosts Australia put 59 for no loss at the end of the first 10 overs in the second ODI against India here, Sunday. Openers David Warner (39, batting) and Aaron Finch (17, batting) are hoping for a repeat of their first ODI heroics to mount an insurmountable total on board against Virat Kohli’s men.

Kohli sets record

Sydney: Virat Kohli Sunday became the ninth Indian cricketer to make 250 appearances in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). He reached the milestone during the second ODI of the ongoing three-match series against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

The 32-year-old, who made his ODI debut on August 18, 2008 against Sri Lanka, has also represented India in 86 Tests and 82 T20Is. Kohli has scored more than 21,000 international runs across formats till now.

Australia win toss, choose to bat

Sydney: Australia won the toss and opted to bat in the second and penultimate One-day International against India here Sunday.

Moises Henriques replaced an injured Marcus Stoinis in the Australian team, but India are playing with an unchanged side at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Australia lead the three-match series 1-0 after winning the opener by 66 runs.

India: Virat Kohli (capt), Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Navdeep Saini, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal.

Australia: Aaron Finch (capt), David Warner, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Moises Henriques, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.
