Belpahar, Jan 3: A 10-year-old girl, who went missing from an ashram here in Jharsuguda district about three months ago, was rescued from Titlagarh in Bolangir district. After being rescued, the girl was sent to the ashram Saturday.
Police said members of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) handed over the girl to the ashram authorities September 18 last year. The girl, however, went missing after staying three days in the ashram.
The ashram authorities lodged a
complaint in this regard at the local police station after her sudden disappearance from the ashram. On the basis of the complaint, police registered a case under Section 363 of IPC and started an investigation into the matter.
Acting on a tip-off from Government Railway Police (GRP) Friday, a team of police personnel from local police station went to Titlagarh railway station and
rescued the girl before bringing her back to Belpahar. On being informed, the girl’s elder brother and sister-in-law reached the local police station Saturday morning to take her into their custody. Inspector in-charge Pratap Chandra Tripathy said the girl would be handed over to the CWC in the presence of ashram secretary. She would be sent home after legal formalities, he added.
