Dhenkanal: Amid a series of child kidnapping and murdering attempts in Odisha in recent weeks, Sunday night a youth was severely beaten up by a mob at Mina Bazzar in Dhenkanal district, on suspicion of being a child-kidnapper.
On being informed, Dhenkanal town police reached at the spot and rescued the youth from the clutches of the angry villagers. However, the villagers demanded strict action against child kidnapers when the officers from local police arrived at the spot to rescue the youth.
According to a source, an unknown youth was found at Mina Bazzar. When the villagers asked the youth about his name and address, he didn’t say anythingand neither did he revealed his purpose of visit to the village.
Some villagers started chasing and beating him suspecting him to be a child lifter. Some even claimed that they saw the young man allegedly lifting a five-year-old girl from their village.
However, local town police reached the spot, rescued the youth and took him to the police station for interrogation.
December 12 a three-year-old girl had reportedly gone missing from Nayagarh district. She was last seen playing near her house at Dadhipatna village under Ranpur block in the district.
A strict search operation has been launched by the police to rescue the girl.
