Bhubaneswar: In Indian households, brooms or ‘Jharu’ are believed to be the embodiment of goddess Laxmi. It is believed that when goddess Laxmi first visited Vaikuntha, she took a broom and swept the entire place clean.
This is main the reason why brooms occupy an important place in Vastu Shastra. It mentions how brooms should be positioned and kept inside the house. Keeping a broom at the wrong place can make goddess Laxmi unhappy and if it happens everyone knows what follows.
Here’s how brooms should be kept in houses:
Brooms should not be visible to visitors and they should always be hidden. Their visibility to outsiders means wealth will go out of the houses.
Brooms should never be kept in an upright or standing position. They have to be laid on the floors.
Brooms should always be kept in the southwest corner of the house.
Brooms should never be kept in the kitchen or dining rooms as it is inauspicious. Such an action may lead to paucity of food stuff inside the house.
