Borigumma: Police Thursday cracked the case wherein a person’s body was recovered from a farmland near Chhatrala under Borigumma police limits in Koraput district January 26.

Koraput SP Varun Guntupalli informed journalists at a press meet at Borigumma police station that a couple had killed the person who was later identified as Sudhir Sahu, a car driver from Bhubaneswar. And the couple had hired his car from Bhubaneswar for travelling to Gupteswar in Koraput district.

The couple had killed Sudhir for him misbehaving with the girl during the journey.

The SP informed that the couple was remanded to judicial custody after they were produced in a local court and after their bail pleas were rejected.

According to the police, the couple was staying in an apartment near Nandankanan in Bhubaneswar. While the man is a married person, the couple was living in a live-in relationship.

The duo hired a car from Bhubaneswar to travel to Gupteswar. They reached Koraput, January 25. They and the driver had dinner at a Dhaba. It was then about 10:00 pm.  The trio had also consumed liquor.

Thereafter they set out for Gupteswar. But on the way, the couple changed their destination of visit and asked the driver to take them to Harishankar in Bolangir district.

On the way, the accused person had to drive the car as Sudhir was not in a position to drive the car due to excess drinking.

On the way, they parked the vehicle near Chhatrala on Ranigarh road. And the trio dozed off inside the car. Later, the girl felt that Sudhir was touching her inappropriately. The couple got infuriated and strangulated Sudhir with a loin cloth to death.

After dumping the body near Chhatrala, the duo escaped using Borigumma road. They did not forget to take Sudhir’s mobile phone and his wallet into their possession.

The next morning, Sudhir’s body was recovered and the police launched an investigation. During the investigation, they zeroed in on the couple. Coming to know that the couple had checked into a hotel named Amar Bhawan in Rourkela, a team from Borigumma police station went to Rourkela and arrested the couple.

The police recovered the car and three mobile phones from their possession.

“The accused 35-year-old person is a resident of a village under Jajpur town police limits and his 20-year-old live-in partner is a Binjharpur resident. They had been living in an apartment near Nandankanan,” the SP had informed.
