Bhubaneswar: Air Odisha has halted its operations to and from Jharsuguda since the airport in the north-western town was closed for maintenance.
Top officials of the airline, however, said the temporary suspension of services to Jharsuguda would not badly affect flyers as Air Odisha has decided to increase its flight operations to and from Rourkela and Sambalpur. “We have received instructions from AAI to stop our operations in Jharsuguda. However, considering passenger demand, we have decided to increase the number of flights from Rourkela, the nearest destination from Jharsuguda,” said Santosh Pani, founder of Air Odisha.
BB Bhattacharya, the official in charge of Jharsuguda Airport, said the airport in the town is closed for maintenance and that construction work is also going on at the airstrip. “Considering passenger safety, AAI decided to stop flight operations from this airport,” he told Orissa POST.
Pani said Air Odisha would refund the fares to passenger who booked tickets online to Jharsuguda. “These passengers can also change their destination to Rourkela,” he added. Air Odisha sources said the airline will begin additional morning and evening flights from Rourkela and Sambalpur within three or four days. PNN
