Bhubaneswar: Kavita Mahakud, who claims to be the rightful daughter-in-law of Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud, Friday recorded her statements before Mahila police here under Section 161 of CrPC.
Fighting an arduous battle to prove that she is the wife of Pankaj Mahakud, Kavita told journalists that she furnished to police all information about her purported marriage with the MLA’s son. She also informed police of her previous marriage.
“I also told police I had earlier married a man named Debashish Mahakud, a relative of Sanatan’s. I had married Debashish in 2008 and had two children with him. But we had separated due to some irreconcilable differences, following which I had married Pankaj in March 2014 and we had a daughter. Now Pankaj has deserted us due to his father. I do not want Pankaj’s properties. I only want him to admit that I am his wife and that we have a daughter,”
said Kavita.
Social activist Tapasi Prahraj, who accompanied Kavita to police, said the statements of Kavita’s brother and a friend of his were also recorded by police.
Sources said Pankaj married a woman in September 2015 and that he has not been in touch with Kavita since then. Police said they are examining the statements of Kavita and will take action accordingly.
