Bhubaneswar, Jan 6: Drawings of over 20 schoolchildren were put up for display Tuesday at Soochana Bhawan, which depicted social messages ranging from protection of wild animals to conservation of water.

Interestingly, some of the children also tried their hand at depicting issues of grave national importance, such as Pakistan’s continuous violations of ceasefire along the Line of Control and the chit fund scam that is making news in the state.
Sashwat Das, a sixth standard student from DAV Public School, who depicted shelling from an invisible enemy across the border, said, “That’s Pakistan trying to attack us all the time.”
That issue apart, Das’ drawings reflect his love for his family, especially for his mother. One of the drawings depicts a mother playing with her child while the other shows her cuddling a baby in her lap. “I love mummy and my family,” Das beamed.
Another kid, Balaram Behra, of Bhagwanpur High School, drew pictures of nature in all its glory, and some of Krishna and an elephant, accompanied by a ‘Save Animals’ message. His drawings innocently depict the beauty of a rising sun, flying birds and a flowing river.
Aryan Panda, a Class IV student and the youngest one to participate in the exhibition, had three of his drawings on display: a swan, a crying elephant and a monkey. “It’s a swan, not a duck!” Aryan curtly reprimanded one of the visitors who was unfortunate enough to mistake the swan for a duck.
Other drawings depict a bird sitting on a tree, a popular cartoon character called Doraemon, trees, rivers, and houses. The young artists were seen proudly showing off their creations as photographers clicked their pictures.
