Bhadrak: Locals vandalised the house of a woman and set some assets on fire before binding her to an electric pole and assaulting her near Charmapa canal road under Bhadrak rural police limits Wednesday on the suspicion that she was involved in flesh trade.
The villagers also beat up another woman and three minor girls who were present in the house.
On being informed, a police team led by IIC Sudarshan Gangoi rushed to the spot and rescued the five injured persons. The police managed to bring the situation under control.
Locals alleged that flesh trade was being carried out inside the house for a long time, but the police did not pay heed to their complaints.
As no action was taken in this regard, over 300 persons including women raided the house. Angry people brought out furniture, sarees, TV set and other things out of the house and dumped them in a canal. Some other household articles were buried.
Police force has been deployed in the village to avoid any untoward incident.
The villagers and the woman in question had heated arguments over a fire incident that had taken place March 3 in the area. Later, it took an ugly turn, leading to vandalism. However, no complaint was lodged with police till this report was filed. PNN
