Mumbai, March 9: England skipper Eoin Morgan stated here Wednesday that he would expect his mates to play in the same brash and aggressive manner that they recently did against South Africa. “We encourage brash attitude, encourage aggression,” stated Morgan while talking to reporters here. “We would want the players to continue in the same vein in the T20 World Cup.
Agreeing to some of his other counterparts that India start overwhelming favourites in the event Morgan however, stated that for the other teams it is an ‘open’ tournament.
“I think the favourites for the tournament is India. Simply because they are very good in home conditions and they had a rich run of form lately. But outside of that it’s a very open tournament,” asserted the 29-year-old Dublin-born hard-hitting batsman.
England, winners of the title once (in 2010) before in its history, are pooled together in Group 1 with Sri Lanka, South Africa and West Indies, plus a qualifier from the first round.
Morgan, who led England’s disastrous campaign in the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, said the team has come along nicely and had a lot of players who can turn around the match.
“We are reasonably confident. Within the group there’s a lot of talent and match-winners. It (winning run) did not necessarily happen in South Africa. But we are positive which is very good coming into this tournament. We are scoring a lot of runs and that indeed is a good sign,” informed Morgan.
