Odisha registers 7,002 new Covid-19 cases; 42 more fatalities

Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 7,002 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 8,13,096. The active caseload in the state now stands at 78,031. Out of the 7,002 new infections, 3,921 were reported from quarantine centres while 3,081 persons contracted the virus locally.

Odisha reported 42 fresh fatalities taking total tally in the state to 2,994 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department.

Angul, Cuttack and Khurda districts reported the highest number of deaths (four each); followed by Boudh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda and Kalahandi districts (three each); Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada and Sundargarh districts (two each); Bargarh, Ganjam, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nuapada and Puri districts (one each). Incidentally, all the four fatalities in Khurda district were reported from the state capital.

Khurda district registered the highest number of new Covid-19 cases with 1,167 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 771 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Jajpur (486), Angul (388), Mayurbhanj (370), Balasore (331), Puri (306), Bhadrak (267), Sundargarh (243), Jagatsinghpur (232), Rayagada (222), Nabarangpur (198), Nayagarh (196), Kendrapara (188), Koraput (158), Keonjhar (148), Boudh (134), Bargarh (117), Sambalpur (107), Dhenkanal (106), Kalahandi (103), Jharsuguda (97), Malkangiri (95), Bolangir (89), Ganjam (74), Deogarh (64), Subarnapur (59), Gajapati (48), Nuapada (28) and Kandhamal (3).

The State Pool reported 207 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.

A total of 1,21,83,116 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of new recoveries stands at 7,616.
