Fatalities continue to be high with 69 deaths in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha registered 1,917 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally in the state to 9,63,851. The active caseload in the state now stands at 19,261. Out of the new cases, 1,109 were reported from quarantine centres while 808 persons contracted the virus locally. Odisha had reported 1,948 new cases of coronavirus infections Thursday.

The fatality rate continued to remain high with 69 persons falling victim to the virus as per information available from the Health department. This incidentally matches the highest number of deaths recorded in the state in a single day. A couple of days back, the state had also reported the deaths of 69 persons due to the virus. The toll in Odisha now stands at 5,377 as per a tweet of Health and Family Welfare department posted Friday morning.

Khurda district had the highest number of fatalities with 26 deaths. It was followed by Balasore (10), Sambalpur (seven), Kendrapara (six), Bargarh (five), Sundargarh (four), Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal and Rayagada districts (two each) and Dhenkanal, Nuapada and Subarnapur districts (one each).

Incidentally, out of 26 fresh fatalities reported from Khurda district, 15 are from the state capital.

Khurda district registered the highest number of new cases with 518 persons testing positive for the disease. It was followed by Cuttack with 256 new infections.

Other districts that reported fresh Covid-19 cases are: Puri (118), Jagatsinghpur (92), Angul (91), Jajpur (87), Balasore (84), Nayagarh (76), Kendrapara (73), Mayurbhanj (69), Bhadrak (55), Sundargarh (50), Dhenkanal (37), Keonjhar (33), Kandhamal (25), Bargarh (19), Gajapati (16), Sambalpur (15), Malkangiri (12), Rayagada (11), Bolangir, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts (10 each), Jharsuguda (nine), Boudh and Ganjam districts (seven each), Kalahandi and Subarnapur districts (six each), Nuapada (five) and Deogarh (one).

The State Pool reported 109 new cases. These are persons who have come from outside Odisha and have tested positive.

A total of 1,54,35,905 swab samples have been cumulatively tested so far. The number of recoveries in the last 24 hours stands at 2,210.
