Cuttack, April 15: Chauliaganj police Friday registered a case in connection with the seizure of fake voter identity cards and PAN cards from the Dhalasamanta siblings and a few of their close aides.
Police had seized fake voter identity cards from Sushant Dhalasamanta and his trusted associates Bhola Bhagat and Arif Khan. They had seized a forged PAN card from Sushant. “Sushant Dhalasamanta and his associates might have prepared the fake voter identity cards at some places in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. We are suspecting the involvement of a racket in the illegal business,” said a senior police officer.
Police said Sushant and his friends had managed to collect loans from commercial banks by using forged voter identity cards. They had also received the benefit of some government welfare schemes through fake documents, police said.
The commissionerate police, meanwhile, has expedited probe into the alleged association of some government officials including executive engineers and junior engineers with the gangster siblings.
According to sources, police have collected vital information regarding the link of Dhalasamanta brothers with some senior government officials from a laptop seized from their CDA residence.
“Officials of several government departments had allegedly helped the Dhalasamanta brothers in tender-fixing activities. We will soon serve notices on them,” the official said.
