Bhubaneswar: Airfield police Thursday arrested seven persons on charges of attacking a marriage procession Wednesday night.
The accused were identified as Sruti Ranjan Sahoo, Paresh Pradhan, Rabindra Behera, Ramesh Swain, Chandan Bhoi, Sujeet Martha and Rakesh Dash, all of Bhimatangi area.
Tension prevailed in Bhimtangi area Wednesday night when some locals attacked the marriage procession. Some of them were armed with sharp weapons. Several people were injured in the incident.
The locals also allegedly ransacked bikes, video camera, procession lights during the scuffle. Asutosh Swain, who was in the procession, was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon.
As soon as the news of the clash reached the neighbouring Sundarpada village, where the relatives of the victims stayed, the villagers marched towards Bhimatangi, resulting in a group clash.
Three FIRs including one from DJ of the marriage procession Ramesh Senapati were lodged with the Airfield police in this regard.
