New Delhi: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Sunday urged the centre to fill up eight vacant posts of judges in the Orissa High Court at the earliest for timely delivery of justice.
Participating in the joint conference of state chief ministers and chief justices at Vigyan Bhavan here, Patnaik proposed to set up 29 courts including four family courts; lok adalats, legal literacy camps and legal assistance cells in every gram panchayat.
“Orissa recognises the importance of timely delivery of justice to common people. Thirty courts of judicial magistrate first class (JMFCs) have been established to ensure speedy trial of offences against women in the state. Further, 26 additional courts of JMFCs have been set up in remote and topographically challenging districts. Also, Orissa has established gramya nyayalayas in remote areas to cater to the rural population,” said Patnaik.
The Orissa High Court has been strengthened with the construction of a litigant-friendly Modern Court Complex and the the state has set up Orissa Judicial Academy to train judicial officers and for their capacity building.
Moreover, a state-level mediation centre and 21 district-level mediation centres have been operationalised for early disposal of cases in the state.
Patnaik said construction of 17 district court buildings and a major judicial complex at Bhubaneswar to accommodate all the courts under a single roof at a cost of `200 crore are in progress.
The Chief Minister also impressed upon the Centre to provide additional resources to create court infrastructure, residential buildings and other amenities.
