Bhubaneswar, May 2: Corporate Defenders emerged champions of the MJ ICON Charitable Celebrity Cricket League, organised by youth NGO ‘WE4YOU’, eking out a narrow three-run win over Celebrity XI in a thrilling final at the Kishore Club Ground here, Sunday.
Opting to bat, the winning side mustered 123 with Harsh Kandoi (36) emerging top scorer. In reply, Celebrity XI could manage only 120 despite a splendid half century by man of the final Avisekh Rath (76). Sandeep Mishra of the losing side was adjudged man of the series.
Dhanraj bags silver
Dhanraj Singh of Puri Sports Hostel secured a silver medal in the vault event in the National School Games Gymnastics in Hyderabad, Sunday. Earlier, Tapan Kumar Mohanty had secured a bronze medal in the U-14 vaults, Friday.
Team selected
An eight-member state team consisting of four boys and four girls were selected to participate in the Federation Cup National Junior Athletics Championships at Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore,
May 3-5.
The squad: Kamakshya Prasad Nayak (100 & 200 metres), Sanjay Kumar Singh (triple jump), Sukadev Mohanty (100 metres hurdles & triple jump), Hari Behera (shot put & discus), Sekunta Kullu (100 metres & long jump), Latika Basra (200 metres & high jump), Samsad Ara Begum (3000 & 5000 metres) and Jasmi Kisku (400 metres hurdles).
