Arushi Mudgal of Odissi dance and Ramachandra Behera of Odissi music (Mardala) will be conferred with Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra Yuva Pratibha Samman at the five day event to be kicked off from September 5
Bhubaneswar: Odissi dance school, Srjan will host the Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra (GKCM) Award Festival here from September 5 to 9, 2021.
The event, to be conducted with strict adherence to all the government mandated Covid-19 safety guidelines and in the virtual presence of several luminaries of the art world, will be streamed live on Srjan’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, at 7.30 pm every day.
The main objective of presenting the GKCM Award, which carries a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- and a citation, is to recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals in the field of dance, music, cinema and theatre. Additionally, the Guru Kelu Charan Mohapatra Yuva Pratibha(GKCMYP) Samman, with a cash prize of Rs. 25,000/- and a citation is presented to exceptionally talented performing artistes below the age of 40 years.
This year the GKCM Award will be conferred on veteran theatre artiste Binodini Debi for her lifetime contribution to Odia theatre. The GKCMYP Samman will be presented to Arushi Mudgal for Odissi dance and to Ramachandra Behera for Odissi music (Mardala) acknowledging their dedication to the art forms and in recognition of their soulful recitals.
Srjan has dedicated this year’s festival in memory of Guruma, late Laxmipriya Mohapatra, the first ever dancer to perform Odissi on stage and the fountain of inspiration for many doyennes of Odissi dance.
This year, the dance presentations scheduled for the event include Odissi by Sharmila Mukerjee, Bharatanatyam by Anita Mallick, Sattriya by Anwesa Mahanta, and Kathak by Sushree Nikkita Banawalikar. The festival will also feature recitals by world-renowned violinist, Sangeeta Shankar, popular Odissi vocalist Rupak Kumar Parida, acclaimed Hindustani vocalist Manjusha Patil, and reputed flautist Abhiram Nanda.
