Bhubaneswar, May 8: Despite a sharp rise in gold prices, the state is likely to see a business of Rs 30 crore during this Akshaya Tritiya falling today, a top official of Orissa Jewellers’ Association said. “We are hopeful that the state may see a business of Rs 25-30 crore during the festive occasion of Akshaya Tritiya Monday. The spurt in prices will not impact overall sales of the metal in the state,” Secretary of Orissa Jewellers’ Association, Sanjay Sahoo told Orissa POST.
Sahoo also noted that despite price rise, demand for the yellow metal is increasing. Footfalls in jewellery retailers’ shops increase during such festive occasions. “Despite soaring gold prices during last three years, sales have not impacted much and remained at optimum levels,” he said. He, however, added that growth on price terms will be higher this year as compared to quantity,” Sahoo said. Gold prices are ruling at Rs 29,600 per 10 gram which was at Rs 25,500 during last Akshaya Tritiya. He also said that nearly 3,000 shops will be selling the yellow metal today. “There are almost 600 showrooms in the twin city which will are likely to see higher footfalls on this occasion,” he added.
