Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: Tension gripped Laxmisagar area when a joint squad of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Thursday pulled down two religious structures and at least 50 makeshift shops.
The drive was carried out on behalf of the roads and buildings (R&B) department for road widening between Laxmisagar and Jharpada via special jail.More than 100 cabins, 50 temporary shops, two religious structures at Laxmisagar Village, as well as nearly 100 unauthorised banners and hoardings and one two-wheeler service station were brought down by the squad amid mild tension.
The enraged locals raised slogans against the BDA’s move and offered some resistance to the demolition drive. However, the situation was soon brought under control by Laxmisagar Police.The demolition drive that began early in the morning continued till 4.30 pm.
