Malkangiri, Jan 10: Seven ultras are believed to have died in an encounter with security forces recently.
Inspector general of police (south-western range) YS Jethwa told the media four ultras, three of them women, surrendered in the cut-off area of Malkangiri district bordering Andhra Pradesh during a five-day ‘Operation All Out,’ a joint combing operation launched by Greyhound unit of Andhra Pradesh, SOG and DVF forces of Orissa.
Jethwa identified the four surrendered Maoists as Kuma Khila of Rupabeda in Koraput district, Phime Padiami alias Rita and Singe Padiami alias Mase of Sanatekaguda in the district and Wala Gangi alias Sakila of Sablur in Kalimela block.
While Bhime, a committee member, carried a reward of `4 lakh on her head, the other three carried a reward of `1 lakh each on their heads. The joint operation was launched on a tip-off about the presence of Maoist leader Ramkrishna aka RK, a member of CPI (Maoist) central committee at the camp among 60 other cadres from Andhra Pradesh and Chhatisgarh.
The surrendered Maoists belonged to Kalimela and Baipariguda Dalam and were active in naxal activities for five to eight years, Jethwa said. They would be rehabilitated as per state norms.
