Keonjhar: Fed up with police inaction in tracing her missing minor daughter, a woman poured kerosene on herself and attempted self-immolation in front of the SP office here Friday. Luckily, a few cops on duty rushed to her rescue and snatched away the kerosene bottle and matches from her possession. The victim has been identified as Manjita Rout. According to sources, Manjita’s minor daughter has been missing for a couple of weeks now.
After failing to trace her whereabouts, Manjita had lodged a missing persons’ complaint about her daughter at the Town Police Station June 2. She again appraised the matter to the District Collector and SP June 6. But, the administration has failed miserably to trace the whereabouts of the missing girl. It is not known if she has been kidnapped or gone somewhere without the knowledge of her mother.
Unable to bear the absence of her daughter, Manjita tried to set herself on fire in front of the SP office. Police immediately arrived on the scene and stopped her. She was then taken to meet SP Mitrabhanu Mahapatra who assured to find the missing girl as soon as possible.
