Bhubaneswar, Sept 18: A 12-minute short movie ‘Bapa’ (father) directed by Manas Parida was screened Sunday at a function organized by Niramala Kruti Bikash Trust and Dakshya Charitable Trust at Nursery Teachers Training Institute in the city. On the occasion, the two trusts also released the design of an old-age home ‘Unity Retreat’ to be constructed in Mendhasal village of Khurda district.
The program was organised in order to create awareness and sensitize citizens about the elderly persons who are left at old-age homes by their families. Artabandhu Patra, Director Intelligence and Crime of Income Tax department, Nirmala trust chairman Dillip Pattnayak and DCT chairperson Suniti Mund were some of the luminaries who attended the event.
The short film ‘Bapa’, written by Pattnayak, was about a father who spent his entire life taking care of every little need of his children only to be left alone at a shelter house during his old age.
Suniti Mund said, “The old age home to be spread across an area of 10,000 square foot that we are building at Mendashala is going to accommodate 100 elderly persons in its first stage.” She added that counseling sessions of the wards of those who were left at such old homes would also be arranged. The stone laying ceremony of this shelter house was done September 6, Mund informed.
Noted personalities from distinguished fields were also felicitated during the event. Literary figure Sarat Kumar das, social worker Prakash Goel, Odissi dancer Ashok Kumar Das, Singer Surendra Naik, artist Chitamani Biswal and Rangoli artists Khirasindhu Bhoi and Manash Ranjan Panda were some of the figures who were feted during the event.
Youth leader Chinmaya Sahu and media persons Dayanidhi Das and Bibhuti Baric were also among the personalities feted.
Nirmala chairman Pattnayak said: “Our organisation had been successful in giving health care services to the people of Lanjigarh block in Kalahandi. The region was earlier known for maximum malaria deaths. But, for the last three years it has recorded zero death due to this disease.”
Culture secretary Manoranjan Panigrahi, water resources additional secretary R S Gopalan and noted actress Anu Chowdhury were other dignitaries present at the function. Odissi performer Swastidipa Pattnaik and singer Subhashree Tripathy did their individual performances during the event.
