Chhatrapur: Ganjam district collector Premchandra Choudhury Thursday directed the commissioner of Berhampur Municipal Commission (BMC) as well as other NAC executive officers to monitor the affairs of the Aahar centres on a daily basis to reduce the number of complaints.
A WhatsApp group was formed so that officials can post images and information about irregularities being committed at the Aahar
centres on the platform for proper monitoring at various levels and quick redressal of complaints being received.
The collectorate received a number of allegations about various problems at the Aahar centres over poor quality of meals.
It also came to the notice of the collector that not enough food is being served at the centres, and that the meals served are usually of substandard quality.
Collector Choudhury convened a meeting at his office over the complaints. He is learnt to have ordered concerned officials to maintain proper hygiene at the centres and ensure proper quality and quantity of meals. He also asked the executives to bring rations according to the number of coupons allotted to each centres.
It was decided in the meeting that people who want to provide food to the poor can use Aahar centres for the purpose. Choudhury asked to fix the price of each meal to enable such generous persons to contribute towards the scheme.
Several officials including additional district magistrate Saroj Mishra were present at the meeting.
