Bhubaneswar: A courageous girl who had chased and fought with three bike-borne miscreants here was felicitated by Bhubaneswar mayor Ananta Narayan Jena for her bravery Monday.
Commissionerate police officials and other authorities praised the girl Chinmayee Bhuyan for her courageous act. Sources said the commissionerate police officials are also mulling to award Chinmayee for her bravery.
Talking to Orissa POST, Chinmayee, a student of Utkal Karate School, said she was talking to her parents over the phone when three bike-borne miscreants snatched her mobile and locket.
“I then decided to chase the miscreants. I followed them and later near Market Building, I hit their motorcycle with my two-wheeler after which the trio fell down. I had a scuffle with them. Two of them fled from the spot but the third miscreant tried to take the motorcycle (OD-13-C-4360). However, I stopped him from doing so. I then approached Capital police in this regard and handed them over the motorcycle,” she added.
Police sources said members of ‘Akash Khatti’, who assemble around 200 metres away from Utkal Karate School, are reportedly involved in such crimes.
“Several anti-social elements are members of Akash Khatti. Some of the miscreants of the group had reportedly molested and physically assaulted a 19-year-old girl during a roof-top rain dance party in BMC Mall April 17 evening,” they added.
Meanwhile, the police said they have registered a case (362/16) in this regard and have lodged a search operation to nab the trio.
