Nabarangpur: A man was allegedly killed by Maoists over police informer suspicion at Khelepara village in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district, a source said Friday.
According to the source, the deceased was identified as Chandan Mallik, a 42-year-old man.
The incident took place late last night, the source said. Around 9 pm, a group of about 25 Maoists arrived in the area. They took Chandan to a field, tied his hand, and beat him.
Later they strangled Chandan with the rope which led to his death, the source added.
Maoists left posters at the place. blaming Nabarangpur SP, Chhattisgarh Police, and intelligence personnel for the tragedy.
The posters further stated that Chandan had previously been warned by them during a ‘Jan Adalat’ against alerting police of their whereabouts. As he did not stop informing police even after the warning, he was given death punishment, the poster read.
An investigation into this incident has been started by the Raighar police.
