Berhampur: Acting on a tip-off, a team of mobile Excise sleuths seized nine gram of brown sugar from a couple and nabbed them while trading in the contraband at Pathara Square under Gopalpur police limits in Ganjam district, Saturday. The accused was identified as Suman Bahadur and his wife Bhanu Bahadur. The Excise officials also seized Rs 2,500 from the couple which they had earned after selling the brown sugar. The breakthrough came after one of the team members posed as a decoy customer and tried to buy the contraband from them. It is suspected that Suman procured the contraband outside the district while his wife used to sell it on the roadside, here.
Later, a probe was launched and it was found that Suman had procured the brown sugar from Bhubaneswar. Further probe is on to ascertain the involvement of other persons in the trade.
