Press Trust of India

Indore, Oct 7: The series already in their pocket and the No.1 ranking cemented, a dominant India go into the third Test against New Zealand here Saturday, aiming yet another clean sweep of a Test rubber at home.
New Zealand, who have competed well in phases against the rampaging home team so far, have an enviable task of stopping the Virat Kohli-led side from notching up their 12th win at home from 14 encounters.
The Kiwis would hope that captain Kane Williamson, who missed the second game due to illness in Kolkata, regains full fitness to lead them for one last-ditch effort to score a rare victory on the Indian soil. Williamson, who batted at the nets Thursday was also present during the nets Friday, but except for bowling a few deliveries, did not bat.
Talking to reporters, the Kiwi skipper sounded optimistic about his chances of playing. “I am feeling better now. I am certainly very hopeful of playing tomorrow (Saturday). I can say I am getting better each day,” stated Williamson. The Kiwis certainly need him as he has looked the most well-equipped to handle the spin threat of Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. India on the other hand, would certainly miss the services of Bhuvneshwar Kumar who is out with a back injury. His place is expected to be taken by Umesh Yadav.
But more importantly, the return of Gautam Gambhir at the top of the order will be watched keenly. The Delhi left-hander will be returning to the Test squad after having last played for the country in England.
The Kiwis, if they get through the Indian openers early will then have to contend with Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma – all of whom have made crucial contributions in the series.
Not to forget skipper Virat Kohli though. He is itching to get a good score under his belt as this series so far has been very ordinary for him. The placid pitch at the Holkar Stadium here certainly gives him the opportunity to do so.
