Bhubaneswar: The Sea condition is likely to be rough over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea from May 7 onwards and very rough from May 9 onwards, IMD bulletin said Sunday.
It is likely to be very rough to high over the southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea from 10 May onwards.
IMD source said Saturday’s cyclonic circulation over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood now lies over southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining south Andaman Sea and extends upto middle tropospheric level.
Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region May 8 which is likely to intensify into a depression over the Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea around May 9.
Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm while moving nearly northwards towards the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining the north Andaman Sea.
The details of its path and intensification will be provided after the formation of a low-pressure area, the IMD said, adding that the system is under constant watch and being monitored regularly.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea area of the southeast Bay of Bengal adjoining Andaman sea and central Bay of Bengal.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail over the southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and adjoining Andaman Sea May 7 and 8.
The wind speed to increase gradually becoming 60-70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph over southeast and adjoining central Bay of Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Andaman Sea May 10 and 11.
Fishermen, small ships, boats and trawlers are advised not to venture into the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Andaman Sea from May 7 onwards and into southeast & adjoining central Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea from May 9 onwards.
Bad weather condition viz. squally weather/strong surface winds and heavy rainfall activity is likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during May 8 to May 12, the IMD said and advised to regulate of tourism and offshore activities and shipping over Andaman and Nicobar Islands during May 8 to May 12.
