Puri: A man allegedly killed his father for objecting to his liquor addiction at Sanakanti village under Pipili block in Odisha’s Puri district, a source said.
The deceased was identified as Hrushikesh Pradhan (60) and the accused as his son Madan Mohan Pradhan (28). Madan has been detained by police.
According to the source, Madan Mohan came home Wednesday night in an inebriated state. He got into an altercation with his parents over his regular alcohol abuse. Later, the fight took an ugly turn as he chased to hack his parents holding an axe.
His parents tried to escape the scene. However, the accused caught his father and dragged him back to their house and allegedly hacked him to death, the source added.
On being informed, local police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem.
Police seized a blood-stained axe from the house.
“Madan Mohan is an alcohol addict. He used to come home drunk everyday. He also used to extort money from his parents to purchase liquor and beat them up when they couldn’t pay. His parents were exasperated over his unruly behaviour which often resulted in quarrels in the family,” a local source said.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
