Cuttack: Eminent writer and Odisha Sahitya Akademi’s secretary Prabodh Rout passed away Tuesday while receiving medical care at a private hospital in Cuttack.
Rout had been admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital due to a road accident few days ago.
The accident took place in front of Cuttack Collector’s residence last Sunday when a stray dog unexpectedly appeared in front of Rout while he was riding his two-wheeler. The mishap was captured on a nearby CCTV camera.
Afterwards, he was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. However, he breathed his last while undergoing treatment.

Members of Odisha Sahitya Akademi expressed their deepest condolences over his death.
Writer Sanjit Pattnaik said, “He has made significant contributions to the advancement of the Odisha Sahitya Akademi. He was a remarkable writer himself and made immense contributions to every facet of Odia literature. He was equally skilled in English literature. His untimely demise has deeply shaken the entire Odia literature community,”
