IMD weather forecast: Heavy rains likely to batter these Odisha districts over next four days

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar in its weather alert of July 24 forecasted heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha over the next four days.

Upto 8.30 AM of July 25: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of south interior Odisha and at many places over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of July 25 to 8.30 AM of July 26: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Bolangir, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of south Odisha, north coastal Odisha and at many places over the districts of north interior Odisha.

Impact and action suggested for Orange Warning:

  1. Temporarily water logging is likely in low-lying areas.
  2. Poor visibility during intense spells of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas.
  3. Possibility of wall collapse of vulnerable kutcha houses and some damage of kutchha road. Avoid staying in vulnerable houses.
  4. Traffic advisory may be issued for movement in your destination.
  5. Possibility of Landslides in vulnerable hilly areas of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.
  6. Arrangements for drainage of excess water from nursery bed and preparations for sowing of paddy crops may be done.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershower is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 34 degree Celsius and 26 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 34.4 degree Celsius was recorded at Jharsuguda while the lowest minimum temperature of 21.4 degree Celsius was recorded at Nuapada, the bulletin informed.
