Noted author, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik’s sister, Gita Mehta passes away

New Delhi: Noted author and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s elder sister Gita Mehta passed away Saturday in New Delhi. She was 80.

Daughter of former Odisha Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, Gita was born in 1943 and completed her education in Cambridge University. She was married to renowned American publisher late Sonny Mehta who was the former head of the Alfred A. Knopf publishing house.

Gita had written several books which include Karma Cola, Snake and Ladders, A River Sutra, Raj and The Eternal Ganesha. Apart from being a writer, she was also a well-known filmmaker.

According to Penguin Random House, her books have been translated into 13 languages and published in 27 countries.
