Bhadrak: An under-trial prisoner (UTP) lodged in Bhadrak Special Sub-Jail slit his left hand and private parts at the jail toilet, Saturday.
The critically injured UTP was identified as Sushant Majhi of Kolha area under Tihidi police limits in Bhadrak district.
Sources said, he has been arrested in connection with a case of domestic violence. After screaming out of pain, he was rescued by the prison officials and hospitalised at the district headquarters hospital in Bhadrak.
Majhi reportedly slit his genitals using the mosquito coil stand inside the jail. Later, he was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack in critical condition where his health condition improved after treatment, jailor Rushinath Nayak said.
Sources said that Majhi has been arrested and put inside the jail for allegedly torturing his wife and it is suspected that he might have done this under mental stress.
