Mumbai: Spinner Anukul Roy (3/34) led India U-19 bowlers’ splendid show as they drubbed their England counterparts by 129 runs in the second ODI to level the five-match series 1-1, here Wednesday. The hosts put up a challenging 287 for eight in 50 overs and then bundled out England for 158 in only 33.4 overs.
The Indian colts struck in the third over when pacer Kamlesh Nagarkoti (1/24) removed opener Max Holden (0) with the team score reading 12. Soon they were reduced to 40 for three and from then on the English batsmen were always fighting a losing cause. Pacer Shivam Mani (2/13) was also on the money as the visitors struggled.
OJ Pope (24) and Delray Rawlins (46, 35b, 4×4, 2×6) put on 40 runs for the fourth wicket to delay the inevitable. However, once Pope was run out by a direct throw from Nagarkoti at the non-striker’s end, the rest of the batters fell in a heap against the medium pace of Ishan Porel (2/33) and the left-arm spin of Roy.
Earlier put into bat, India rode on good knocks from Himanshu Rana (58, 66b, 10×4) and Harvik Desai (75, 62b, 10×4). The latter helped the hosts to recover after they had been reduced to 108 for four.
Desai played a variety of shots, including late cuts, sweeps and drives, before throwing his wicket away. India’s lower-order also contributed with Roy (20), Nagarkoti (36) and Shiva Singh (23) playing useful knocks. Fast bowler Matthew Fisher (4/44) was the most successful bowler for England.
