New Delhi: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda who met Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Wednesday said his ministry would consider opening a tertiary cancer care centre at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
Nadda is reported to have assured Patnaik of Centre’s aid to open a tertiary cancer-care centre in Orissa. Nadda said, ‘‘We have approved a state-level cancer care unit in Cuttack at an expenditure of `120 crore. The centre will provide aid to launch three centres for tertiary-care in state soon where each centre will get `45 crore from the Centre for the same.”
The three centres suggested by Nadda include VSS Medical College, Burla, MKCG Medical College, Berhampur and Kalahandi district headquarters hospital at Bhawanipatna, as sought by by Patnaik. According to a release from the Chief Minister’s Office here, Nadda promised Patnaik of considering the plan to open a tertiary cancer centre at Capital Hospital.
Earlier, Patnaik met the minister to raise some pending issues pertaining to state’s needs in health sector. During his meeting Nadda, which was attended by Union health minister CK Mishra, Naveen demanded pending Central aid for five new medical colleges for the state.
Patnaik also exhorted Nadda to release pending central aid of `397 crore for five new medical colleges in Orissa. Nadda assured that it would be released at the earliest. The CM, meanwhile, demanded that the Centre issue letters of permissions to two medical colleges at the earliest as the two medical colleges (in Baripada and Koraput) are expected to start fresh admissions in 2017.
Patnaik also complained to the Centre about delay in starting the Regional Institute of Paramedical Sciences (RIPS) despite the sanction of 10-acre land in Bhubaneswar by the state government. He also requested relaxation of the norms limiting attempts at the NEET examinations.
The BJD chief also claimed that the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-IV) recently projected improvements in infant mortality rate and institutional deliveries in state health sector.
