Purushottampur: Police here have arrested the husband of a sarpanch in a gram panchayat under this block in Ganjam district for allegedly raping and impregnating a minor girl. After making the arrest, police Friday forwarded the accused to a special POCSO court in Berhampur. The arrested person has been identified as Tutu Das, 30.
As per the police complaint, Tutu lured a minor girl and raped her multiple times leading to pregnancy. When Tutu came to know about the girl’s condition, he brought some medicines and gave it to her to abort the pregnancy. The incident came to the fore after the minor girl complained in this regard at Purushottampur police station. Acting on the complaint, a case (350/24) was registered and after investigation Tutu was arrested, said Bipin Bihari Hota, IIC of Purushottampur PS.
