New Delhi: Bhubaneswar railway station ranks 13th among cleanest stations in the country in the Swachh Rail Survey conducted by the Railway ministry through the Quality Council of India (QCI).
According to ministry sources, 407 railway stations belonging to A1 and A categories were assigned ranks on the basis of specific parameters. A third party process audit, direct observation and feedback from the citizens were considered for the rankings.
According to the ranking report, apart from the Bhubaneswar railway station, Puri railway station was ranked 37th among the 75 A1 category stations surveyed across the country.
The cleanest among the surveyed cities announced by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu included Vishakhapatnam, Secunderabad, Jammu Tawi and Vijayawada.
The order of ten Orissa stations which stood out among 332 A category railway stations are Khurda road railway station (ranked 75), Jajpur-Keonjhar road (80), Bhadrak (94), Cuttack (100), Rourkela (105), Balasore (107), Berhampur (117), Rayagada (266), Sambalpur (287) and Jharsuguda ranked 290. Nevertheless, the ranking of the 16 zones of the Indian Railways across the country has hailed the East Coast Railway (ECoR) based at Bhubaneswar for its performance in maintaining cleanliness on the railway station and platforms falling under its jurisdiction. The ECoR was ranked second in the country second only to the South East Central Railway.
Launching the ranking list, Prabhu said, “I hope the ranking will help inculcate the habit of healthy competition among railway stations. After ranking stations, we are all set to assess performance of 200 trains in the days to come.”
The minister also claimed that by 2019 all trains will be equipped with bio-toilets and his ministry will ensure onboard cleanliness service through mobile apps.
As part of the survey, the ministry has rated the railway stations on the basis of their quality in areas like parking, main entrance, main platform, waiting halls, waste management, open sitting, drinking water facility, vendor zone, toilets and other amenities and their maintenance.
