Bhubaneswar: Despite all out efforts of the state government, only 770 candidates registered with employment exchanges across the state have got placements in 2016 – the lowest in past seven years.
According to a report prepared by the Skill Development and Technical Education department, as many as 1,65,252 unemployed youths have registered themselves with the employment exchanges functioning across the state in 2016. However, only 770 of them got jobs in public sector.
During the calendar year, 433 vacancy notifications have been issued by the government and 6,300 registered students have applied for the posts, it said.
While 4,481 got placements in 2010, it reduced to 3,775 in 2011, though the figure rose to 3,850 in the next year, the report said.
After that the placement figure goes down year by year. As many as 2,646 candidates got employment in 2013 while the number of employed youths decreased to 1,144 in 2014 and 1,825 in 2015.
The number of candidates, whose names were in the live register by the end of 2010, was 9,42,194. It rose to 9,65,269 by the end of December 2016, it said.
State has 80 employment exchange offices including 30 district employment exchanges, five special employment exchanges, one state employment exchange, four university employment information and guidance bureaus, 33 employment sub-offices and seven rural employment bureaus.
