New Delhi: A recent report revealed that e-commerce and tech startups, engineering and infrastructure, and retail are the top three industries in the country showing a strong intention to hire freshers in the second half of this year. The report also highlighted a 7% increase in the demand for fresh graduates compared to the July-December 2023 period, indicating a recovery in the job market across various sectors.
Bengaluru leads the hiring trend, with 74% of employers planning to onboard freshers, followed by Mumbai at 60% and Chennai at 54%, according to the TeamLease EdTech report.
The report, based on a survey of over 603 companies across India, shows that 72% of employers are looking to hire fresh talent in the coming months, signaling a positive outlook for new graduates.
Founder and CEO of TeamLease EdTech Shantanu Rooj stated that the rising intent to hire freshers is a promising sign, reflecting increased employer confidence and offering significant opportunities for young professionals entering the job market.
Job roles such as full-stack developer, SEO executive, digital sales associate, and UI/UX designer are currently in high demand for fresh graduates. Employers are particularly seeking candidates with expertise in cybersecurity, cloud computing, data analytics, and search engine optimization, the report said.
The report also notes the steady demand for degree apprenticeships, with the manufacturing sector leading at 25% of employers planning to hire degree apprentices, followed by engineering and infrastructure at 19%, and construction and real estate at 11%.
As the job market continues to evolve, there is a growing emphasis on technology and digital skills. According to Rooj, there is a noticeable demand for roles that combine technical knowledge with creative problem-solving.
Rooj also emphasised that the real game-changer is the increasing recognition of the need for stronger industry-academia collaborations. The consistent demand for degree apprenticeships highlights the shift towards more practical, hands-on learning experiences.
