Bhubaneswar, June 9: “Monsoon is likely to be delayed by two-three days due to low rainfall in north-eastern parts of the country,” said the director of The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre (MeT) Sarat Chandra Sahu. Earlier, Sahu had stated that the southwest monsoon was likely to hit the state by June 10.
However, they have forecast heavy rainfall with thunderstorm to occur at one or two places over Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Khorda, Kandhamal and Nayagarh districts during the next 24 hours. They informed that under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation, a low pressure area has formed over West central and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal off south Orissa and north Andhra Pradesh coast.
Several parts of the state, especially the northern and interior parts have already received moderate to heavy rains Friday morning.
Phulbani recorded the highest rainfall of 29 mm while Cuttack and Bhubaneswar drenched with a rainfall of 10.8 mm and 9.4 mm respectively. Among other places, Gopalpur recorded 4 mm rainfall and Sambalpur received 7 mm. Heavy rainfall was also reported in the districts of Sambalpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput and Rayagada. PNN
