Bhubaneswar: Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 1.061 kg of gold bars from two passengers coming from Kuala Lumpur at the international airport here Sunday evening.
According to official sources, the passengers were intercepted on a tip-off after their arrival at the airport by Air Asia flight (AK31) at 11.25 pm. “On a thorough search, cut pieces of six gold bars having foreign marks weighing 661 gram were recovered from a person (28) hailing from Kolhapur (Maharashtra), travelling from Bangkok to Bhubaneswar via Kuala Lumpur while four gold biscuits of foreign marks weighing 400 gram were recovered from another person (25), a native of Madhya Pradesh who was travelling from Singapore,’’ an official statement said, adding the gold was concealed inside their renal cavity. The accused are under custody and investigations have begun, DRI officials informed this paper.
