Bhubaneswar: Manpreet Kaur expressed satisfaction Monday over her as well as the Indian contingents show at the Asian Athletics Championship which concluded Sunday.
“I’m happy with my show. However, for importantly we have topped the medal tally and the credit for that goes to all the team members,” Manpreet said on the sidelines of a programme here.
Manpreet bagged the first gold for India in the AAC-2017, when she won the women’s shot put event with an effort of 18.28m.
“Twenty nine medals is a great result for us. We were confident of putting up a good show, but we never thought we would 29 medals. We have created history and as an Indian that makes me immensely proud,” she pointed out.
Manpreet was quick to point out that the level of competition in AAC-2017 was of high standard after questions were raised about the strength of the second string Chinese and Japanese sides. “Let us not judge all that… we need to reflect on our own strengths and weaknesses,” she asserted.
“China will always be one of the strong forces in athletics world. But that doesn’t mean we are lacking behind. If you see past few years, we have raised our standards. We are winning international medals on a consistent basis, she added.
